Costumes

Growing up my mom would help my sister and me create elaborate Halloween costumes every October. I haven’t lost my love of costume making, whether for Halloween, for parties, or for movies and plays. Below are a few costumes I’ve designed.

Willy Wonka

Inspired by the Roald Dahl story, and the several resulting films, this was my interpretation of the famous chocolatier.

Blackbeard

As a proud North Carolinian, I had to give the infamous pirate a try. Though it’s not obvious in the photo, I inserted tea lights inside the beard (which was a composite of several other fake beards) so that it would appear to be on fire.

Golden Man

This character is totally my own creation. I’m still exploring who he is, but I knew he had to be tall. This posed a fun ‘engineering’ challenge. I went through several prototypes to solve the problem:

In the end I went with the one on the far right, which was the simplest but also the most sturdy. At least until the plastic started cracking..
Stay tuned for V4.

My interpretation of a human/crow hybrid. Yes, you can actually see out of the mask!

I originally designed this one for a sci-fi event. He’s a futuristic punk-type character. Kind of like someone you might meet in A Clockwork Orange.
